Who we are
Nestled in the small town of Kellogg, Iowa—home to just 600 residents—the Kellogg Historical Society is dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich story of rural America. Our museum campus, founded in 1980, is a 9-building complex filled with historic structures, artifacts, and small-town relics that together tell a much larger story: the vital role rural communities have played in shaping our nation.
For generations, towns like Kellogg were the backbone of America—centers of agriculture, industry, innovation, and community. Today, many of these towns face the risk disappearing into the pages of history. Our mission is to ensure that doesn’t happen.
We exist to educate, inspire, and connect visitors of all ages with the importance of preserving local history. By showcasing everyday life, work, and ingenuity from the past, we hope to spark a renewed interest in heritage and encourage future stewards of small-town preservation.
The Kellogg Historical Society also strives to collaborate with other organizations, historians, and preservation groups to raise awareness about the challenges facing rural communities in the modern age. Through education, tourism, and partnership, our goal is to help revive interest in small towns and ensure their stories continue to be told for generations to come.
